Trading numismatics for Ag bullion
I've been an off-and-on coin collector for some time and outside of putting together a couple of fair type sets, the stuff I have for the most part is scattered, impulse buying at coin shows or online purchases, getting into a series and not following through, that sort of stuff. I was going through what I have tonight and thought that for the space that it occupies, silver bars or rounds would be a whole lot smarter.
My thoughts are to inventory the stuff and print it out, take the inventory list to my local dealer and ask him if he would be interested in trading it for silver. I've sold this guy a fair amount of silver in the past, his buy prices have always been fair, IMO. What I have is a lot of mint and proof sets, brown box Ikes, commemoratives, nothing major that is going to really interest a dealer. Or should I just try to peddle this stuff on eBay (which is a real PITA, IMO)? Any ideas? |
Re: Trading numismatics for Ag bullion
eBay is the way to go for stuff like that.
However, if you can do a fair trade out with your dealer for about 5 - 10% less, you would probably be a head of the game after fees, paypal, shipping etc... |
Re: Trading numismatics for Ag bullion
Some of those coins in your proof sets might already contain 40%, or maybe even 90% silver. If so, their value will rise as silver prices continue to rise. If you would prefer to own .999 silver rounds or bars then you really should do some research and figure out what each set is worth and whether or not it would be worth your time and hassle to sell them.

If you do go the ebay route, take US POSTAL MONEY ORDERS....ONLY! Don't go through the hassle of checks or paypal.
